Icing on the cake is the mail my family just received from our Assemblymember Joseph R Lentol (Brooklyn). A note entitled “2011 Extraordinary Session: Taxes Cut for 99 Percent of New Yorkers” reads:

“I am pleased to report I joined my colleagues in Albany recently in passing an historic taz relief package that will create jobs across the state. The legislation reflects progressive tax reforms that reduce tax rates for 99 percent of New Yorkers and ensures that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.

“The new High-income tax bracket for households earning more than $2 million per year will raise nearly $6 billion in revenue over the next three years, which will be used to restore crucial funding for schools and health care, create jobs and reduce the budget deficit. The legislation benefits middle-class taxpayers by cutting income tax rates and indexing the standard state tax deduction to inflation, resulting in an additional gain for taxpayers each year.”

We should be eager to see what this amounts to this year and in the years to come. I hope I am not the only one taking this news on good faith, and who’s looking forward to more good news. I may be unemployed, but I’m finding myself an occupation, y’all!
